Stunning photos…sigh

by janice on July 22, 2009

Caroline's seagull 1

I admire…

  • Folk who can take stunning photos
  • Folk who can frame and enhance them beautifully with Photoshop
  • Folk who can find other people’s stunning photos online
  • Folk who can resize and upload them without taking five hours to do it :(

Some day I’ll practise enough to learn and get better, but until then, I am so thrilled to be able to introduce Caroline. She is the owner of two beautiful blogs, The Zen in You and Whimsical Whispers. Many of you already know her. However, for those of you who haven’t met her yet, she’s the person whose glorious photo heads up this post – which may turn out to be my shortest ever!

I adore her work! Her blog posts are short, beautifully written and inspiring, but I must confess, I love the photos most of all. I think they’re simply breathtaking. They stun me into silence and make my heart sigh…

A friend of mine thinks I’m mad for including links that will inevitably lead people away from my site to others, but that’s not the way I think. Our extended blogging family is one of the most supportive, inspiring communities I’ve ever been a part of. In tough financial times, it’s a tonic to feast your eyes on something for free. I can think of a million and one ways Caroline could earn her living from her photography, but I also know she’s wise enough to find her own way.

I was absolutely paralysed trying to choose a few photos from the hundreds of Caroline’s I’ve seen. In the end, I just went for the first few I loved. Enjoy! (Then head on over to The Zen in You or Whimsical Whispers!) I asked for Caroline’s permission to use a few of her copyright photos. But I beg you, please; if you’d like to use any of her photos, please ask her. She’s a kind, generous person and would love to hear from you.

Oh Janice what a surprise to read this today! I am honored and flattered that you enjoy my work so much. I love sharing my photos! I am just glad to have someone comment on my work and say that it made them feel good. Thank you again for this lovely mention!

XO,
Caroline

P.S. I have a photoblog that folks can visit too… the more the merrier!

You are so welcome. My blog tagline says “soul food”, and that’s exactly what your blogs are. It would be wrong of me not to do what I can to inspire the bloggers who in their turn go on to inspire others! I would have used dozens of your photos in this post, but resisted the urge, so that folk would be tantalised and go over to visit you!

I felt the same way you did when I discovered Caroline’s photoblog last month. She has the rare Eye of God. I hope she realizes how incredibly gifted she is with a camera and a photo editing program. Stunning shots for sure. I put a link to NoWordz on my blog.

Although I’d ‘met’ Caroline through comment boxes, I have you to thank for the Nowordz link, Brenda – I remember the lizard! I didn’t actually mention that link in the post because I wanted folk to head on over and discover how Caroline’s writing fits the photos when she uses them in her own blogs first, but she’s so generous she went and put the link to Nowordz in her first comment!

Hi Nadia,
I have to keep reminding myself that among the new silent readers here, there will be folk who don’t travel all of the same blog routes as I do.

Brenda – Wow thank you! I am a bit speechless here… Too often I criticize my work and when I read stuff like this I am completely humbled.

Nadia – Thank you! Again, I am honored. You have an amazing blog and appreciate your kind words about mine.

I feel that way about Lindsey of Emphatic Asterisk. She is thoughtful, her observations measured and careful, and yet she continues to face the most daunting of topics with understanding and grace. And you think I share a lot!

Caroline’s pictures are exquisite.

Exactly; “exquisite” is a word I wish I’d used about them.

And I don’t know if I’m brave enough to risk checking out Lindsey’s. Your post yesterday made me want to deck your mother!

I’d love to see some of them if you do. I often wish comment boxes would allow folk to put wee thumbnails in as well as words; I don’t know about you, but somedays all I want to post are photos or quotes, recipes or music snippets – and not in my posts, but down here, in the boxes, where folk chat and share their journeys. If you do take a few that really express part of your journey, please feel you can send them over here and I’ll share them with folk. We can start getting some photos of regular café visitors’ art on the walls!

That’s an open invite, too, to anyone who reads ‘Journey Threads Daily’ down here in the boxes!

Thank you for the link, Cheryl. I had a quick look and I understand what you mean about the way she blends all of her self expression holistically. By the way, I found myself using the compost heap metaphor in an intro today; thanks for planting it yesterday!

Caroline’s photography and posts lured me in a while back, and I consider her one of my favorite bloggers and friends! I’m so glad you are sharing her talents with those in your world! And now that I’ve visited your blog, I’ll most definitely be back to explore even more.

Nice to meet you Roban, and thank you for taking the time to have a wander round the blog. I always appreciate when folk let me know they do that. Blogging can feel like you never have time to look back and see how much you’ve accomplished – we’re always so happily busy creating and connecting. It’s a breath of fresh air to wonder what a new visitor’s impressions might be.
That’s why it must make Caroline feel so proud to be able to see her creations in a slideshow, gliding through moments of memories captured. Photos are like keys that unlock entire memory experiences for us.

Hi Janice,
I love all that Caroline shares, and have been following her for a while now. And I’m always drawn back to her writing, and her amazing pictures.

Caroline – it’s so great to read about you here today! You are an inspiration to me, and I’ve learned so much in all our interactions. Keep smiling my friend…

I’ve seen you over at Caroline’s place. It doesn’t surprise me that you love her work; you and I – and a lot of the folk who bless my boxes – seem to meet in a lot of the same blogs that have an inner glow! I don’t think it’s a coincidence. I suspect folk resonate to light frequencies as well as sound and soul frequencies.

You’re welcome, Marc. I had this post planned when folk were saying supportive things about the photos I shared. I know myself how much I love to see friends’ personal photos – there are bits of them in them, and it’s like seeing the world through their eyes – but Caroline’s are beyond personal; they always make me feel like the universe sent them through Caroline to encourage us all to be still, pay attention, love and learn and absorb the beauty from everything around us. This will sound daft, I know, but my writing sighs with relief at the thought of her photos as illustrations; so many of the ones I find on Flikr are OK but don’t resonate.

You’re a sweet soul, Zeenat! And you’ve come to a good place to meet a whole range of talented and supportive people. If you’ve time, check out the comments boxes rather than, or as well as, my posts. The blogs of the people who visit here are all much more established than mine and have an awful lot more visitors, but it’s no coincidence. Real, human connections are what all of their comment boxes have in common, and they all take time to nip over here and support a relative newcomer. If you need technical help as a new blogger, visit Marc and Barbara.

Hi Maya,
I love your blog name and check out loads of blogs over at Julia’s and Melissa’s because the names alone make me sigh! Thanks for this new link. I’m trying to discipline myself and set aside certain times for exploring new sites and others for responding to comments, reading my subscriptions etc, but I look forward to checking it out.
